Directors View - October 2012

There is still plenty of activity in the recruitment market in the last month and working with clients we have seen a stable number of requirements for both contractors and permanent staff in both September and moving into October however the competition amongst candidates is very tough and if you’re not quite good enough at the interview stage the job may go to someone else.

In the last month I remember several examples of where are candidates have had to go the extra mile to secure the role. One tip we provided a candidate in helping them ensure they were not late for an interview ( a big turn off for any client) was to go there an hour early and have a coffee right nearby. This eliminates the chance of being late and of causes no stress if running tight for an interview. Another example was where a candidate had flown all the way from Poland to London for an interview only to be taken by taxi to the wrong location and in fact missing the interview slot and having to fly home again.

With real determination to prove they wanted the role the candidate and Vine organised another flight and interview slot and this time we met them at the airport to take them to the client directly. The market may still be challenging however clients are recruiting but just want the best people and perhaps those who will go the extra mile.
